What is the climate of Anguilla like?

Anguilla is a British Overseas Territory in the Caribbean. The island is the most northerly of the Leeward Islands in the Eastern Caribbean and is just 26 kilometers (16 miles) long and 5 kilometers (3 miles) at its widest point. There are several smaller islands with no permanent population. Anguilla lies to the east the British Virgin Islands and directly north of Saint Martin.

Anguilla has a tropical climate, with little seasonal variation. Average monthly temperatures range between 26°C and 29°C (79–84°F). The climate is moderated by north-east trade winds providing a cool breeze for most of the year. The hottest months are July to September but even at that time there is usually a breeze.

Rainfall on Anguilla is fairly low for the Caribbean, averaging 1,000 millimeters (40 inches) annually, with substantial variation from year to year. There is no distinct rainy season although the months of August to December tend to have more rain, and there is a drier period between January and April.

The hurricane season is officially from June to November, however, August, September and October are the months when hurricanes more often occur. It is rare though, for Anguilla to be directly hit by a hurricane.
