What is the climate of San Marino like?

San Marino is a tiny, landlocked country located entirely within Italy, situated between Italy’s Marche and Romagna regions. It is Europe's third-smallest independent state (only Vatican City and Monaco are smaller). It lies in the Apennine Mountains at an altitude of 750 meters (2,500 feet), and inland from the Adriatic town of Rimini.

San Marino has a modified Mediterranean type of climate typical for peninsular Italy. Summer are warm and pleasant, and temperatures rarely rise above 27°C (82°F). Winters are somewhat cold, with temperatures often falling below freezing.

Rainfall is scattered throughout the year with no real dry month. Annual rainfall averages between 560 millimeters (22 inches) and 800 millimeters (32 inches). Snowfall is common in winter.
