All of our pages about Africa.
Africa is the second largest of the continents, three times the area of Europe. Three-quarters of the continent lies within the tropics. It features Great Rift Valley, containing most of the great lakes of East Africa; the Atlas Mountains in the northwest; the Sahara Desert (world’s largest desert) in the north; Namib and Kalahari deserts in the south; equatorial rainforest in the middle; and great rivers like Nile, Congo, Niger, Zambezi, and Limpopo.
